swimming

this is somehting I have neglected to mention befor.  you need to be a good swimmer, as this articel mentions.  if not it will takes ages toget anywhere and could be dangerous.

sport water : How To Kitesurf
Learning to KiteSurf through instruction and practice is by far the best way to learn and experience the heart-pounding action and gravity-defying jumps. As with any sport there are safety precautions you should adhere to. You must be a good swimmer. Swimming entails that if your kite flies away from you, you may have to swim after the handles or swim back to shore. Depending how far out you have gone on your board this may not be such an easy task.

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 July, 2006 : -
-Antoine Albeau (F-192) reclaims the event lead after six races, as
Bjorn Dunkerbeck (E-11) slumps to fourth position. A resurgent Micah
Buzianis (US-34) leapfrogs Finian Maynard (KV-11) to take second. Karin
Jaggi (Z-14) continues to dominate with only Valerie Ghibaudo (FRA-444)

There were pretty gusty conditions this morning but there was enough
wind to start racing after the morning skippers' meeting. First to go
was men's race five.
