Spinach Festival short film by Warren Melling

Warren Melling from Idiots Inc Entertainment has been at it again with 2 entries this year for the second running of the SPINACH film festival.

Of his 2 entries Warren produced a Kiteboarding film based around the progression of the sport as he has captured it; freestyle, waves, kickers and sliders.

He teamed up with some great bands to get some recognisable music which ultimately helped him get both films nominated in all catagories.

At the end of the night Warren came up trumps with his MotoX entry "Men at Work" in the best music/editing category.

As a token of his appreciation to all the riders and industry people that made this possible Warren has released his kiteboarding entry "Progression" for all of us to see.

HIGH AS A KITE

St. Kilda East resident Michael Chijoff has taken design to the extreme and has been selected as one of 12 finalists in Australia’s leading student design award, the Australian Design Award®-Dyson Student Award, with his revolutionary ‘MANTRA Kitesurfing Bar’.

The ‘MANTRA Kitesurfing bar’ was designed to eliminate factors inhibiting riders performing one-handed grabs with low levels of confidence and open up and entirely new range of tricks.

“Safety is often thought of as a barrier in pushing the limits within extreme sports. I’ve designed MANTRA Kitesurfing Bar to provide a safer platform so riders can push themselves even further than before,” Michael Chijoff, a Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology student, said.

The MANTRA Kitesurfing bar increases trick success rates reduces injury rates and increases speed and performance outputs.

This year’s 12 finalists were selected from 90 entrants by an international panel of experts in design and technology.

“The Australian Design Awards and Dyson partnership is about supporting young designers who share Dyson’s philosophy of complete design; developing products that provide significant solutions and don’t just focus on the aesthetics,” says Ross Cameron, Managing Director, Dyson SEA.

“The Australian Design Award®-Dyson Student Award is an incredible program that puts student talent under the spotlight, and provides a bridge from academia to industry,” says Stephanie Watson, Manager of the Australian Design Awards.

The Australian Design Award®-Dyson Student Award rewards innovative and distinctive engineering and design emanating from Australia’s education sector.

The Australian Design Award®-Dyson Student Award consists of a Gold, Silver and Bronze winner sharing in a prize of $10,000; the Gold winner being automatically entered into the prestigious International James Dyson Award.

Michael will now attend the prestigious Australian Design Award Presentation night at the Wharf 8 Complex in Sydney’s Darling Harbour on May 19. His entry will also be on display in the Australian Design Award Exhibition which runs over the whole day.
